Thinking of becoming an educator but unsure about how to make the transition work?  The programs listed below are all designed to make the transition into a teaching career simple as possible:

Kansas State University—Earn a masters degree and elementary teaching license online in 12 months. Click here for more information.

Fort Hays State University – The Transition to Teaching program is designed to address vacancies in school districts through an alternate route to teacher licensure. It includes the recruitment and training of professionals seeking a chance to shift gears and enter the teaching profession. This program offered completely online except for a 4-day induction course (ALTC 800, 2 credit hours) which is offered on campus during the Summer.  Contact Kerry Schuckman, 785-628-4542, [email protected], or Dottie Staab, 785-628-5498, [email protected].

Friends University— The Elementary Education Program prepares adult students to teach grades K-6. Most classes are offered in the evening to allow you to maintain your work, family and other commitments.  However, there are occasional daytime and Saturday requirements as you complete your field experiences, including student teaching. Click here for more information. 

Pittsburg State—PSU is the only university in the state of Kansas to offer an Online Masters of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in Special Education (Adaptive Level 6-12). This program is designed for paraprofessionals with a BS or BA degree in a non-teaching content area who want to teach adaptive special education in grades 6-12. Wichita State — WSU offers a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Unified/Elementary Education in a fully online curriculum for para-professionals. Applications can be accessed at www.Wichita.edu/apply.   Choose the TRANSFER application, Online program, and select Early Childhood Unified-Elementary Education Apprentice-TAP as the major.
