The board of education elected Nedra Elbl as president and Carol Brandert as vice president.

Annual Resolutions

The board of education approved the following annual resolutions:

  • To establish regular meetings.
  • To waive the annual requirements for generally accepted accounting principles and fixed asset accounting.
  • To rescind policy statements found in minutes.
  • To adopt 1116 school hours.
  • To establish home rule.

18-19 Official Depositories

The board of education approved official depositories for district funds: Bank of Tescott, BANK VI, Bennington State Bank, Capitol Federal, Central National Bank, Exchange Bank, First Bank Kansas, Rose Hill Bank, Solomon State Bank, Sunflower Bank and UMB Bank.

18-19 Official Newspaper

"The Salina Journal" was designated as the district’s newspaper of record.

The board of education approved the June 30, 2018 unencumbered cash balances.

 

Encumbrance Listings

The board of education approved the following encumbrances: (1) Alexander Open Systems (AOS), $107,757.45, building-level switches; (2) KCAV, $28,469, multi-media projects at South and Central High Schools; and (3) Johnson Controls, $27,800, annual service agreement for maintenance and repair of CCTV/Access Control System.

Smoky Hill Education Service Center Contract

The board of education approved the 2018-2019 Smoky Hill Education Service Center contract.

CKCIE Contract with Presence Learning

The board of education approved the contract with Presence Learning for the 2018-2019 school year for a minimum of 350 students.

18-19 Mileage Allowance

The board of education set 54.5 cents per mile as the 2018-2019 mileage allowance.

18-19 Petty Cash Fund

The board of education authorized petty cash funds for Central High School, South High School, Kennedy Early Learning Center and the District Office at $1,500 per fund. Lisa Peters, executive director of business, was appointed employee to administer petty cash funds.

18-19 Copy Fees

The board of education approved a fee of 10 cents per copy of records for the 2018-2019 school year.

Excess School Equipment and Supplies

The board of education approved the liquidation of excess school equipment and supplies.

18-19 Facility Use Fees

The board of education approved school facilities use fees for the 2018-2019 school year.

Set Special Meeting

The board of education approved setting a special meeting on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the district office in the SEC Room for the budget worksession.

Superintendent's Report

Dr. James Hardy, superintendent of schools, complimented everyone who was involved in the negotiations process for a job well done. He also complimented the Board of Education members for the initiative demonstrated in their participation in a great many training opportunities. He reported that U. S. Congressman Roger Marshall visited the Cottonwood Elementary School Summer Food Program and spoke with Laine Norris, director of food and nutrition services. Dr. Hardy received a visit from Greg Orman, Kansas independent gubernatorial candidate, to inform Mr. Orman about Career Pathways and the Career Technical Education opportunities at USD 305. Dr. Hardy reminded everyone that online enrollment begins July 13 and complimented Salina Area United Way for the reading program, RAWR (Raising Active, Wild Readers), which works with the Summer Food Program. Dr. Hardy asked Eryn Wright, executive director for human resources, to update the board about the results of the career fair. She reported that 110 people attended and approximately 37 individuals were hired at the event.
