Kris Upson, executive director of operations, was honored by the Smoky Valley Chapter of the Society of Professional Engineers as their Engineer of the Year.
Horizon Awards
Kristen Hanks, South High School algebra teacher, and Kelsey Plummer, Cottonwood Elementary kindergarten teacher, were recognized by the board of education as the district’s 2020 Horizon Award recipients.

Central High Fundraising Activity
The board of education approved Central High School’s fundraiser for “Discount Cards” to area businesses. Funds will be used to purchase miscellaneous equipment, t-shirts and team-building activities.
South High Fundraising Activity
The board of education approved South High School’s fundraiser for “Cougar Cards” to area businesses. Funds will be used to purchase weight equipment, video equipment and supplies.
20-21 Textbook Rental Fees
The board of education approved the textbook rental fees for the 20-21 school year; $60 for students in grades kindergarten through eight and $100 for students in grades nine through twelve.
Tennis Partnership
The board of education supported the public/private partnership’s efforts to improve the tennis court facilities and looks forward to discussion with other interested parties toward that end.

Superintendent's Report
Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, toured Project SEARCH at Salina Regional Health Center. She facilitated three listening sessions at Stewart, Oakdale and Meadowlark Ridge elementary schools. Superintendent Exline met with a fifth grade leadership group at Stewart Elementary School and announced that Vickie Marcozzi, art/enrichment reading and writing teacher at Oakdale Elementary, was named one of seven Kansas Master Teachers by Emporia State University.
