2022-2023 Amended Budget Hearing
The board of education opened the amended budget hearing due to the significant increase in free lunch eligible students, which increases the At-Risk funding under the law. The amendment has no effect on the local tax mill levy.

Recognitions/Presentations
Salina Education Foundation LIFT and Grants Presentations
Michael Chambers, executive director of the Salina Education Foundation, presented the recipients of the 2023 LIFT program; Vanessa Arceo, Isaac French, Grace Hilbert, Sara Orr, Audrey Powell and Alaina Yianakopulos.
Outside the Box grants were awarded to Katie Lidgett, Jenna Eshleman, Kiersten Dykes, Kevin Poland, Gina Turner, Dustin Dooley and Schott Chrisman.
21st Century Advantage grants were awarded to Elizabeth Burke, Nikki Chamberlain, Elizabeth Kinion, Shelly Parks, Jamie Hoff, Gina Turner and Katie Lidgett.
Barhydt Special Education grants were awarded to Lauren Turner and Angela Botz.
Salina Education Foundation’s allocations committee also committed $3,000 in funds to support field trips in the next school year. Additionally, $7,000 was made available to support Sudden Opportunity Grants in classrooms across the district next school year.
Superintendent’s Excellence Awards
Central High Scholars Bowl: Charlene Arrieta-Renteria, Elijah Resano, Nehemiah Gomendoza, Kegan Madison and John Rose. Katrina Paradis and Melinda Jett are the co-sponsors.
Central High KMEA State Piano: Jasmine Kassem. Guillermo Rodriguez is the band director.

2023-2024 Chromebook Student Handbook
The board approved the Chromebook student handbook for the 2023-2024 school year.
Salina Virtual Innovation Academy (SVIA)
The board approved to change the grade levels served by SVIA from K-12 to grades 6-12 effective in the 2023-2024 school year.
Visible Learning
The board approved the purchase of the professional development proposal for adopting Visible Learning from Corwin Visible Learning for a three-year period.
2023-2024 Calendar
The board approved the change to the 2023-2024 school year calendar to move the April 9, 2024 inservice day to August 25, 2023 to allow two full days of Visible Learning training.
2023-2024 Handbooks
The board approved the proposed changes to the elementary school, middle school, high school and athletic handbooks for the 2023-2024 school year.

Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Exline hosted an internal SPS Chat with certified support staff as well as another for the public. The public SPS Chat focused on Career and Technical Education and postsecondary opportunities. The event was well attended. Guests heard from high school students currently taking these classes, enjoyed treats created by the culinary arts students and learned more about how to connect their students with a multitude of opportunities. Superintendent Exline reported that the fourth video in the school safety series is now available on the district YouTube channel and website. She informed the board that district administrators have completed the fifth session about threat assessment training and that the district has begun testing the StopIT app. She complimented the human resources department for their work to develop a Mini Job Fair. The first Mini Job Fair was held last week and engaged nine candidates
