2022-2023 Local Option Budget (LOB) Resolution

The board of education approved the annual resolution to adopt the LOB percentage used in the budget. The resolution stated an authorization for 33%.

2022-2023 Exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate

The board of education opened the hearing for the purpose of hearing and answering objections of taxpayers relating to exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate for the 2022-2023 school year. The board of education approved the resolution relating to exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate for the 2022-2023 school year.

2022-2023 Budget Hearing

The board of education opened the budget hearing for the purpose of hearing and answering objections of taxpayers relating to the proposed use of funds and the amount of tax to be levied.

The board of education approved the 2022-2023 budget.

Staff members are nominated by colleagues to receive a You Make a Difference Award for their support of students and the mission of Salina Public Schools. Board of Education members surprise recipients during their workday with a lapel pin and a handwritten note.

Jennifer’s positive leadership has been instrumental in the implementation of a branding refresh for the district. Thanks to her efforts, the department has been able to provide support for communications at multiple levels in the district. The standards for which Jennifer advocates, encourages staff to ensure we are presenting our work and ourselves in the best manner possible. Thank you, Jennifer, for making a difference!

Appoint 2022 KASB Delegate and Alternate

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, appointed Dana Kossow as a delegate and Scott Gardner as an alternate to attend the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) Delegate Assembly.

 

Discussion Items

Kansas Education Systems Accreditation (KESA)

Deanna Cullins, director of accreditation and professional learning, reported that Salina Public Schools earned full accreditation and reviewed the KESA accreditation process.

 

School Board Reports

  • Mark Bandré, board member, attended the Salina Education Foundation (SEF) meeting and Smoky Hill Education Service Center Executive Cabinet meetings.
  • Bonnie Schamberger, board member, attended the SPS Chat session at Sunset Elementary.
  • Gabe Grant, board member, attended the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education (CKCIE) Board of Control meeting and SEF meetings.
  • Dana Kossow, board member, attended the CKCIE Board of Control meeting, the Equity Council orientation and meeting and visited all elementary schools during their school marathons.
  • Jim Fletcher, vice president, attended SEF meetings and KASB’s Leadership for Tomorrow.
  • Ann Zimmerman, president, met with the auditor, attended two KASB constitutional law webinars, listened to Linn Exline on a radio program and attended the SPS Chat sessions.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, reported that she is working to create a public opinion survey of Salina Public Schools (SPS). The survey will be active late September or early October and will provide information to help SPS better serve students and the Salina community. Both a phone and an online survey are being developed with all responses kept confidential. Everyone is encouraged to participate. Superintendent Exline met with Jennifer Gordon about the 100th celebration of Dunbar School on November 19, 2022. Superintendent Exline and Shanna Rector, deputy superintendent, participated in an active assailant training through the Salina Police Department. She has held three SPS Chat events including one with Central High School students and two community sessions at Sunset Elementary where the district’s strategic plan and how belonging fits into that were discussed.
