LMS award
We are proud of the accomplishment of Lakewood Middle School (LMS), Sunset and Heusner elementary schools who competed in the Central Kansas LEGO Robotics Regional Competition hosted by LMS. They displayed an incredible amount of dedication and teamwork to turn the vision for their robot into a reality. The level of creativity and engineering presented during this competition is definitely something to celebrate as it serves as proof that there are no limits with STEAM-enabled learning.

The LMS team included 18 students with sponsors Jennifer Griffin and Renee Toms. Their team won the Core Values Cup and placed 7th and 12th out of 15 at the competition.

Ten students were on the Sunset team with Melyssa Jackson as sponsor. This is the first year elementary students have participated. "Students enjoyed putting the Lego structures together and building a team," said Melyssa. "They had a great time and learned how to code the robot in a day. They were so proud to successfully run a couple of completed programs."

Tresha Hoover, sponsor, led the Heusner PRIDE Robotics team of 10 students.

“Our students had low expectations because it was their first year,” Tresha said. “To their surprise, their perseverance paid off and they did very well – better than they expected!”

Project tasks required collaboration and building a team. “They had to learn to trust others for the good of the team,” added Tresha. “The team amazed me throughout the season and astonished me on competition day! We can’t wait for next year!”

We are proud of all of our students who participated! Let’s continue empowering our students to expand their skills and embrace challenges!
