2023-2024 Local Option Budget (LOB) Resolution

The board of education approved the annual resolution to adopt the LOB percentage used in the budget. The resolution stated an authorization for 33%.

 

2023-2024 Exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate

The board of education opened the hearing for the purpose of hearing and answering objections of taxpayers relating to exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate for the 2023-2024 school year. The board of education approved the resolution relating to exceeding the Revenue Neutral Tax Rate for the 2023-2024 school year.

 

2023-2024 Budget Hearing

The board of education opened the budget hearing for the purpose of hearing and answering objections of taxpayers relating to the proposed use of funds and the amount of tax to be levied.

Bridget was nominated by a fellow teacher who shared that Bridget’s superpower is seeing a struggling student, taking time to talk with them and turn their day around. Her colleagues know she is a wonderful source of ideas about classroom management, lesson planning and how to connect with all students. She makes everyone around her feel included, connected and part of a team. Thank you, Bridget, for making a difference!

Central High International Thespian Fundraiser and Out-of-State Field Trip

The board approved the Central High Thespian fundraiser to fund an out-of-state trip to Bloomington, Indiana for the International Thespian Festival from June 22-29, 2024.

 

Appoint 2023 KASB Delegate and Alternate

The board appointed Dana Kossow as the delegate for the 2023 Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) Delegate Assembly and Bonnie Schamberger as an alternate.

 

Salina Baseball Enterprises

The board approved a $200,000 commitment to the renovation of the field currently named Wilbur Field and the long-term lease agreement for the use of the complex.

 

Discussion Agenda

Bond Refinancing Update

Greg Vahrenberg, managing director with Raymond James & Associates, presented the final savings information on refinancing a portion of the district’s outstanding Series 2019 Taxable General Obligation Refunding Bonds.

 

Board Policy

Eryn Wright, executive director of human resources/legal services, presented for first reading policy JBCC – Enrollment of Nonresident Students. A public hearing regarding this policy will be held prior to its adoption.

  • Ann Zimmerman, board member, attended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the Visible Learning training and the community panel discussion on August 29.
  • Mark Bandré, board member, attended the Smoky Hill Education Service Center Executive Cabinet meeting and delivered a You Make a Difference Award at Sunset Elementary School.
  • Bonnie Schamberger, board member, attended the community panel discussion on August 29, the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) legislative lunch, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting and walked in a school marathon.
  • Gabe Grant, vice president, attended the KASB legislative lunch and the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education (CKCIE) Board of Control meeting.
  • Dana Kossow, board member, attended the Visible Learning training, various sporting events and the Equity Council meeting.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, reported that the district hosted a visit from a representative of the Department of Homeland Security. They toured school buildings, reviewed crisis plans and debriefed with school administrators. Superintendent Exline presented Horizon Awards to Camdyn Schreiber, fourth grade teacher at Sunset Elementary School and Josh Rubino, English teacher at Central High School. Superintendent Exline announced that a community perception phone survey will start on Friday, September 15 and will provide valuable feedback to the district about strengths and areas that still need work.
