Graduation Requirements

The board approved the new graduation requirements, to begin with the class of 2028.

 

Board Team for Negotiations with Certified Personnel

The board approved Jim Fletcher and Gabe Grant to the school year 2024-2025 board team for negotiations.

 

Board Team for Meet and Confer with Classified Personnel

The board approved Bonnie Schamberger and Ann Zimmerman to the school year 2024-2025 board team for meet and confer with classified personnel. 

 

Interlocal Agreement with Smoky Hill Education Service Center

The board approved the interlocal agreement and membership in the Smoky Hill Education Service Center effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2029.

Shanna Rector, deputy superintendent, provided a summary of recommended additional growth measures to monitor progress toward the strategic goal areas of communication, critical thinking, and social-emotional skills.

School Board Reports

  • Ann Zimmerman, board member, attended the new jail ribbon cutting, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the Smoky Hill Education Service Center (SHESC) Legislative Luncheon, Building Bridges and the Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) convention. As a board candidate she guested on the KSAL morning show and attended the NEA-Salina candidate forum.
  • Mark Bandré, board member, attended the SHESC Executive Cabinet meetings, the SHESC Legislative Luncheon and the Salina Adult Education Center (SAEC) Advisory Board meeting.
  • Bonnie Schamberger, board member, attended the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the debate tournament at Central High School (CHS), the SHESC Legislative Luncheon, Building Bridges, the KASB convention and listened to the State Board of Education meeting.
  • Gabe Grant, vice president, attended the SHESC Legislative Luncheon, the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education Board of Control meeting and the KASB convention.
  • Dana Kossow, board member, attended the SHESC Executive Cabinet meeting, student mock interviews at SHS and the KASB convention. As a board candidate, she guested on the KSAL morning show and attended the NEA-Salina candidate forum
  • Scott Gardner, board member, attended the KASB convention and delivered a You Make a Difference award.
  • Jim Fletcher, president, attended Salina Education Foundation meetings, the Kansas School Board Resource Center training with Gabe Grant and Superintendent Exline and the KASB convention.

Superintendent’s Report

Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, reported the she and Jennifer Camien, director of communications, presented at state conferences for the Kansas School Public Relations Association and KASB. She reported that a Coffee Chat is scheduled for Thursday, November 16 from 7:30-8:00 a.m. at the District Office. Superintendent Exline and Lisa Peters, executive director of business, are presenting to all building Site Councils. She reported that Salina Public Schools was highlighted at the KASB convention for its work to address chronic absenteeism. She also shared that the State Board of Education is scheduled to review our grant application for the Kansas Stronger Connections Competitive Grant at their meeting on November 15. The board approved this request to apply at their September 12 meeting.
