You Make A Difference
The You Make A Difference Award is presented to staff members whose exemplary actions support students, colleagues and the mission of Salina Public Schools. Recipients of these awards receive a lapel pin and a handwritten note personally delivered by a board of education member.
Jan Henry, Special Education Paraprofessional
Schilling Elementary School
Jan has been deeply involved with special education students at Schilling for the past 10 years. She is hard working and does whatever is needed to ensure that students’ needs come first. Jan is deeply involved in the Parent-Teacher Organization and accepted the position of treasurer to support its continued success. Thank you, Jan, for making a difference!

The board of education approved the encumbrance to Trane, $24,535, parts, labor and licensing to perform system migration at Salina West Education Center and the Operations Center.
Heartland Vehicles Bid
The board of education approved the bid for two midsize sport utility vehicles from Don Hattan Chevrolet in the amount of $49,700.
Elementary Roof Repair
The board of education approved the bid of Geisler Roofing in the amount of $58,993.44 for Schilling Elementary roof repair.
Resolution to Establish Election of School Board Officers
The board of education approved the resolution to establish election of school board officers to be held at the first meeting in July 2022.

Building Bridges Event Update
Curtis Stevens, director of secondary programs, presented a summary of the November 11, 2021 USD 305 Building Bridges event.
Mental Health Intervention Team Grant
Tiffany Lowe, director of student support services, gave an overview of the Mental Health Intervention Team (MHIT) grant that is provided by the Kansas State Department of Education.

Superintendent’s Report
Linn Exline, superintendent of schools, thanked Jim Fletcher, president, for acknowledging the work involved in managing the December windstorm. She expressed appreciation for how the administrative team worked together managing that situation. With a number of Durham busses unavailable due to storm damage, other districts (Twin Valley, Southeast of Saline, Minneapolis, Ell-Saline and North Ottawa) graciously offered to loan busses. Superintendent Exline shared the ongoing struggle to fill vacancies in schools when staff are absent. The district could use more substitutes and she encouraged anyone who could help to apply. Superintendent Exline attended the KASB Advocacy Network and offered to provide additional information to board members if they are interested. She shared that Shanna Rector’s, deputy superintendent, department began Project Based Learning training with a pilot group of teachers.
